More funds for 12th Street

City OKs $65,000 for light poles, parking lot

By Bert Lehman

The Clintonville City Council has approved up to an additional $65,000 in funds for the 12th Street reconstruction project.

The additional funding was approved at the council’s Sept. 10 meeting by a 9-0 vote. Alderman Chuck Manske was excused from the meeting. The money will come from Capital Funds.

City Administrator Sharon Eveland said she was not informed by staff that the light poles on 12th Street were not included in the project costs.

She added that it’s not a feasible option to use the light poles that were previously used.

“We made a decision to look at the costs for replacing and getting new light poles and new bases with the poles switching to LED (lights),” Eveland said. “We’re also going to add two decorative LED lights to the parking lot. Initially we were going to have no lights in there.”

The decision to add lights to the parking lot was made after an after dark-meeting was held in the parking lot. The additional lighting for the parking lot that was included in the original plan was determined to not be feasible.

Some of the extra funds will also be used for other additional costs related to completing the parking lot portion of the project.

“We’re going to redo that entire parking lot, as opposed to doing a section of it,” Eveland said. “It will work better and in the long run it will be in better condition and last longer.”

The median that was originally in the parking lot will continue to be eliminated as originally planned, Eveland said.
