Polar Bears fall to Oshkosh West

Hortonville gets home tournament match

Hortonville’s volleyball team wrapped up its Fox Valley Association schedule Oct. 17 by dropping three of four games to Oshkosh West. The Wildcats opened the match with a pair of 25-18 wins before the Polar Bears won the third set, 25-23. However, Oshkosh West ended the match with a 25-17 win.

Hortonville finished with a 3-6 record in FVA matches, while the Wildcats improved to 9-2.

Appleton North won the conference championship with a 9-0 record, followed by Kimberly (8-1), Oshkosh West (7-2), Fond du Lac (6-3), Neenah and Kaukauna (4-5), Hortonville and Appleton East (3-6), Appleton West (1-8) and Oshkosh North (0-9).

The Polar Bears received a No. 6 seed in the WIAA Division 1 Green Bay Preble Sectional. The Polar Bears will open state tournament play at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, by hosting No. 11 seed Appleton West. The winner of that match will place No. 3 Bay Port or No. 14 Ashwaubenon for a regional championship Saturday, Oct. 26, with the highest-seeded team hosting.
