North Fond du Lac spoiled the season opener for the Weyauwega-Fremont boys’ basketball team by handing the Indians a 54-51 home loss Dec. 2.

Liam Schalk and Jakob Jaeger turned out to be an effective one-two punch for the Orioles, as they combined for 38 of their team’s 54 points.

Michael Schalkowski gave Weyauwega-Fremont an early 2-0 advantage, but that turned out to be the Indians’ only lead of the game.

The Orioles eventually took a 21-10 lead on a pair of Dakota Krupp free throws, but the Indians responded with an 11-1 run to cut the lead to 22-21.

North Fond du Lac led 26-23 at halftime.

Weyauwega-Fremont cut the lead to one point three times in the second half, but never got any closer.

Logan Krause led the Indians with 12 points, while Ethan Feltz and Schalkowski also finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Schalk led all scorers with 20 points and Jaeger added 18.

The Indians will head to Wautoma Thursday, Dec. 5, to face the Hornets at 7 p.m. and will open Central Wisconsin Conference East Division play at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, in Shiocton.
