Suspect charged with reckless endangerment

A New London man is accused of setting another man on fire.

Nicholas Teasdale, 24,  is charged with three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and one count of misdemeanor battery.

Shortly after midnight on Nov. 24, New London police were dispatched to a home on the 1600 block of South Pearl Street.

New London Police Sgt. Nick Kamba spoke with Dustin Christian, who was being treated for burns in an ambulance.

According to the criminal complaint, Christian said Teasdale threw gas on him and lit him on fire.

After Christian ran outside and removed his burning shirt, Teasdale allegedly hit him in the head with a pipe or metal rod.

Christian sustained first- and second-degree burns on his right forearm and wrist.

Kamba and New London Police Officer Luke Curtis located a burnt shirt and a bottle of lighter fluid in the kitchen.

Christian told investigators that Teasdale, his girlfriend and a child moved in with him about two months earlier.

He said he no longer wanted Teasdale living there because he brought drugs into the house and did not pay his rent.

Christian, his son and a woman were together in the same room when Teasdale allegedly splashed all of them with lighter fluid.

“I’m going to burn all you guys up. You’re all going to die,” Teasdale said, according to the complaint.

Teasdale is currently in custody on a $5,000 cash bond.

He faces up to 12 1/2 years in prison on each count of reckless endangerment if convicted.
