New London returns the favor

Bulldogs hand Thunder first defeat

By Holly Neumann

An 86-44 loss to Seymour in December is one game the New London boys’ basketball team would like to forget.

The rematch is one the Bulldogs will remember for a long time.

Seymour brought a 15-0 record, including a 9-0 mark in Bay Conference games, into New London High School Feb. 4, but returned home after a 64-60 loss.

Garret Locy scored 10 of his 20 points in the first half for New London, but the Bulldogs trailed the Thunder 33-29 at the break.

The turning point in the game came midway through the second half after Peyton VanDeHei fouled Locy and was also whistled for a technical foul. Locy hit all four free throws to tie the game.

New London went on to outscore Seymour 35-27 in the second to improve to 6-3 in the Bay and 10-6 overall.

Gabe Wohlt and Locy led the Bulldogs with 21 and 20 points, respectively, while Connor Brinkman chipped in with 12 and Ben Porath added 11.

VanDeHei led Seymour with 16 points and Daniel Inman finished with 14.

New London is now off until the Bulldogs host Menasha at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11.
