Work planned on track

Iola-Scandinavia School Board OKs improvements

By Holly Neumann

The Iola-Scandinavia School Board voted unanimously on Feb. 10 to accept the $49,870 bid from American Asphalt of Wisconsin to overlay the existing track behind the elementary school.

The project will mill butt joints on adjacent pavements to allow for the overlay transition.

It will then be cleaned and swept, with tack coating applied prior to paving.

A warm mix asphalt containing Forta-Fi Reinforcement Fiber compacted to an average total thickness of 1 3/4 inches will then be placed on the existing asphalt.

The final step will include layout and striping of the track in addition to restriping the existing long jump.

This price does not include any work with the starting block anchors or topsoil/landscape work along the new asphalt edges.

The district will meet with American Asphalt in the spring to set up the dates for the project.

In other business, the board approved the retirement of language arts teacher Terrell Bonnell, who has been with the district for 30 years.

Also approved was the Spanish Club’s trip to Guatemala and Belize in March 2021.

Upcoming meetings are the Working Committee at 5 p.m. Monday, March 2 and the regular board meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, March 9.
