County issues travel advisory

Health officer urges snowbirds to stay in place

Waupaca County Public Health Officer Jed Woldt recommends people who have a seasonal or second home in Waupaca County to stay in their permanent home to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

“Due to the limited health care infrastructure, please do not visit us now,” Woldt said.

He also noted high community transmission of the coronavirus in certain areas of Wisconsin.

Woldt also recommended that people who have been living at their winter homes not return to Waupaca County at this time.

“If you recently came from an area outside Waupaca County, you are encouraged to self-quarantine for 14 days in order to stop potential community-to-community spread,” Woldt said.

He noted that Waupaca County has a large population of older and vulnerable adults.

“These populations are at the highest risk of COVID-19,” Woldt said. “It is our priority to keep people in Waupaca County healthy and safe.”

Waupaca County, following state and federal guidelines, has declared a state of emergency and taken steps to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is an ever-changing and a very serious health situation, and Waupaca County needs to be diligent in its response to establish restrictions that are particular to the needs of Waupaca County’s residents,” Woldt said.
