Separate ballot to ask about ATVs
Voters in Mukwa will have an option to answer an advisory question separate from the normal ballot of the April 7 election.
The town has created a separate ballot asking residents to answer the question: “Are you in favor of allowing ATV/UTV use on Town of Mukwa Roads?”
Citizens can also write comments on the back of the ballot.
Town board members will use the advisory-only question to help gauge how residents feel about the topic of ATVs on town roads.
A large group of ATV/UTV enthusiasts attended the Feb. 11 town board meeting to encourage the board to adopt an ordinance allowing ATVs on the town’s roads.
A resident asked if the town could place the question on the April 7 ballot.
Town Clerk Jeannette Zielinski said it was too late to legally add a question to the ballot.
The board then agreed to offer an alternative advisory-only question, on a separate ballot that will be made available to residents when they vote.
Residents can circle one of three choices — Yes, No, or No Opinion — and write a comment on the back before returning the anonymous ballot separately from the official ballot.
