Meth bust in Waupaca

Pedestrians stopped after 911 call

Jamal A. Pointer, 24, Waupaca, is charged with felony possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, felony bail jumping, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Thursday, March 26, Waupaca Police Officers Jeffrey Mason, Daniel Wasrud and Tom Grant responded to a suspicious persons complaint on the 600 block of West Fulton Street.

The caller said she saw two men walking in the alley and believed they were scoping out houses.

The officers located the men near Hardee’s.

Due top prior contacts, Grant recognized one of them as Pointer.

The second man identified himself as Mason Q. Phillips, 17, Manawa.

According to the criminal complaint, Pointer mumbled and turned away when Grant asked if he had anything illegal.

Pointer reportedly admitted that he had drug paraphernalia.

Grant told Pointer to remove his backpack, then handcuffed him.

The officer reported finding 2 grams of meth, two meth pipes, about two dozen gem bags commonly used for distributing illicit drugs and a folding knife in Pointer’s pockets.

Mason reported that Phillips turned over gem bags and a scale that he said belonged to Pointer.

Phillips is charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pointer is in custody on a $2,000 cash bond.
