Health Officer Jed Wohlt reported Sunday that four people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Waupaca County.

One New London woman died from the disease on March 27.

Waupaca County also reported Sunday a total of 198 negative test results.

Statewide, there were 144 deaths and 3,341 COVID-19 cases reported as of Sunday, April 12.

More than 20,486 deaths and 525,000 cases have been reported across the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The World Health Organization reported nearly 106,000 deaths and 1.7 million COVID-19 cases, with the United States reporting more cases and deaths than any other nation.

Due to the volatile nature of the disease, the numbers change drastically each day.

In the 24 hours prior to its April 12 report, WHO reported 85,679 new cases.

People may be sick with the virus for 2-14 days before developing symptoms, the CDC reports.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, fatigue and a dry cough.

In severe cases, patients may have difficulty breathing, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, a sense of confusion and bluish lips or face.

The CDC says older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions such as heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.

The CDC encourages people to wash their hands frequently, avoid touching their faces, practice social distancing by staying at least 6 feet away from other people, go grocery shopping no more than once per week and wear a cloth mask when gong out in public.
