Bags part of summer program

Iola Village Library using Facebook, website

The Iola Village Library has announced changes to its summer programs.

In-library summer programming will not be held, but summer programs will be available in Imagination Bags that will be available for pickup at the library.

Summer programs

• Read, Read, Read (June 15 to Aug. 7): The library is using Beanstack to keep track of reading minutes and activities.

Patrons can download the app on their mobile device or go to iolalibrary.beanstack.org. Information can be found on the library website – iolalibrary.org – and on its Facebook page, Iola VillageLibrary.

Patrons can also pick up a paper reading record at the library, write down how many minutes they read and bring the record back each week. Everyone who completes eight weeks of reading will receive a prize.

• Where in Iola are the Gnomes? (June 15 to Aug. 7): Gnorman and Gnorma, the library’s gnomes, have been exploring Iola. A new picture will be posted each week on the main entrance doors at the library. Participants can check out the picture and write down their guess, name and telephone number on the paper provided and drop it into the book drop.

One prize winner will be chosen from all the correct guesses each week.

• Flat Gnorman and Gnorma (June 15 to Aug. 7): Pick up the flat gnomes at the library and take them on adventures at home or around town.

Library staff want to see pictures of all the adventures they have or the mischief they get into. They can be posted on the library’s Facebook page or e-mail them to staff at [email protected].

• Tie a Blanket for the Humane Society (June 15 to Aug. 7): Pick up a blanket at the library and take it home to tie. Return it to the library and staff will deliver it to the Humane Society of Waupaca County for use by dogs and cats at the society’s shelter.
Take a picture and send it to the library.

• Gnome-tastic Family Craft (June 15-19): Pick up a Gnome-tastic Family Craft Bag any time during the week at the library.

The bag will include instructions and materials for making a gnome and ideas for gnome activities.

Library staff will post a video on Facebook showing how to make a gnome. This is a fun project for the whole family.

• Imagination Bags (June 22 to Aug. 7): Pick up an Imagination Bag based on a fairy tale each week. Every bag will include a project with instructions and materials to make it, as well as additional ideas to do at home.

Library staff will post an instructional video on Facebook each week that shows how to make the project in the bag.

• Imagine through S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) (June 15 to Aug. 7): Pick up an Imagination S.T.E.A.M. bag at the library. Each week will include a fun and interesting new activity to do at home.

The bags are for ages 6 and up and one per family will be given out.

• Virtual Stuffed Animal Sleepover (July 13-17): Since stuffed friends are social distancing with at home and can’t come to the library, library staff are asking participants to take a picture or draw a picture and bring it to the library or send it to [email protected].

Library staff will post pictures all week on Facebook, as well as a bedtime story time video on Tuesday, July 14.

• Virtual Magic Show (Thursday, July 23); Magician Daryl Rogers will be featured in a virtual magic show that will include classic magic, comedy and illusions from around the world. The video will be posted on Facebook.

• Imagination Summer Finale (Friday, Aug. 7); Plans will be announced later this summer. Watch for an announcement on the library’s Facebook page and website.

Summer offerings can be found on Facebook, the library website and posters around town.
