2020 Irish Fest canceled

Shamrock Club calls off rescheduled event

The Shamrock Club of New London has officially canceled its 2020 Grand Parade and Irish Fest.

The events had been rescheduled for Sept. 19.

Shamrock Club Advertising Committee spokesperson Ryan Lanning said in a statement Monday, June 8, “It is with great sadness the Shamrock Club of New Dublin has decided to cancel our Grand Parade and Irish Fest for 2020 due to the COVID-19 concerns.”

Lanning said health and safety of citizens and patrons of the event were among top concerns in deciding to cancel the event.

The Shamrock Club canceled its originally scheduled March 21 Grand Parade and Irish Fest on Friday, March 13, then announced a rescheduled Sept. 19 date.

Lanning said Monday; the club will carry over its 2020 dignitaries, including Irish Man and Irish Rose Bob and Terri Murphy and Parade Grand Marshal Dorothy Nielson into 2021. The Irish Lad and Lass representatives will also be carried over into next year.

Lanning thanked the club’s many supporters and said the event will be “back in 2021 as grand as ever.”

The Shamrock Club’s schedule has been updated with next year’s dates for the week of March 15-20, 2021.
