Corn Roast canceled

Scandinavia Booster Club calls off summer event

Scandinavia’s biggest event has been canceled for this year.

The Scandinavia Booster Club has decided to call off the Scandinavia Corn Roast, scheduled for July 31 to Aug. 2.

“We made this tough decision based on the overall safety for all our volunteers, the public who attend our event, the entertainers and for the safety of Scandinavia and surrounding community residents,” club president Dell Mork said. “Our goal is to work with the entertainment we had lined up for this year to hopefully be able to reschedule them to come perform for the 2021 Scandinavia Corn Roast to make 2021 the best Corn Roast yet.”

On the other hand, the club still plans to go ahead with the third annual Corn Roast Classic golf outing.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Glacier Wood Golf Club in Iola.

“We want to assure you this event will happen unless a turn of events happens and we for any reason get put back in lockdown and are state-ordered to do so,” according to a post on the club’s Facebook page. “Unfortunately, with the no mass gathering order, which we would like to follow as best as we can, we will not have our normal sit-down post-golf dinner. We still want to feed our golfers, so we will provide a lunch on the turn from Iron Grille. The bar will be open and there will be a beverage cart.”

Profits from this year’s event are earmarked for small local businesses in need.

The cost is $60 per golfer or $30 for Glacier Wood Golf Club members. This price includes golf, cart, lunch and donated items provided by the Scandinavia Booster Club and Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative.
