Time to see the doctor

Volunteers place protective gear on 3,000 birds

Bob Peterson was among the volunteers who helped place protective gear on more than 3,000 birds Friday, June 12.

A retired physician from Waupaca, Peterson is a director and volunteer at the club.

“The purpose of this is to protect them from pecking each other and to prevent infection,” said Peterson.

The club purchased just over 3,000 day-old chicks five weeks earlier and will raise them for release and stocking programs on club owned and leased lands this fall.

The Wisconsin DNR suspended all of its Pheasant rearing operations this year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

New London Fish and Game Club normally receives its chicks from the DNR and raises them for the state in trade, but this year they had to purchase their own.
