W-F junior wins CWC title

Hortonville boys place third

Ever since she came up short in her first cross country race of the season, Abby Bartel has been on a roll.’

That roll continued Oct. 15, as the Weyauwega-Fremont junior won her third Central Wisconsin Conference championship at the CWC meet in Pittsville.

Meanwhile, Hortonville headed to Kaukauna for the Fox Valley Association meet at Countryside Golf Club and returned home with a third-place finish in the boys’ competition.

CWC meet

Bartel finished behind Amherst freshman Jennifer Omernik at the season-opening meet for both runners in August in Pittsville. The two runners returned to Pittsville for the conference meet and also placed first and second, but the order was reversed.

Bartel turned in a time of 20:01.1, nearly 50 seconds ahead of Omernik, and shaved almost three minutes off of her time from the first race.

Omernik and the Falcons shared the girls’ championship with Bonduel. Amherst and Bonduel led the way with 43 points, followed by Weyauwega-Fremont (67), Rosholt (70) and Pittsville (142). Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa, Marion, Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Tri-County had incomplete teams.

Other places and times for Weyauwega-Fremont included Melanie Jentsch (sixth, 21:47.9); Emma Ziepke (13th, 23:08.6); Madison Hansen (22nd, 23:46.9); and Ava Loehrke (44th, 26:28.3).

Chloe Timdal placed 35th in 25:40.6 to lead Iola-Scandinavia, followed by Tara Thompson (39th, 26:04.7); Alyssa Grant (46th, 27:35.2); and Abby Isermann (54th, 30:44.4).

Marilyn Klatt led Manawa by placing 16th in 23:10.4, followed by Andria Weber (49th, 28:14); and Aspen Linjer (55th, 31:04.9).

Pacelli won the boys’ championship with 41 points, followed by Wittenberg-Birnamwood (67), Iola-Scandinavia (89), Bonduel (127), Rosholt (132), Amherst 137, Weyauwega-Fremont (140), Manawa (202), Pittsville (210) and Marion (294).

Iola-Scandinavia had a pair of top-five runners in Robert (third, 17:58.8) and Charlie Vater (fifth, 18:04.3). Also placing for the Thunderbirds were Dylan Donovan (18th, 18:53.8); Jacob Lashua (24th, 19:11.1); Ian Koss (40th, 20:55.6); Will Meier (60th, 22:35); and Brandon Phillips (64th, 23:12.3).
Carson Kester led Weyauwega-Fremont by placing 17th in 18:52.2. Other finishers for the Indians were Josh Halat (26th, 19:42); Logan Krause (30th, 20:04.5); Isiah Schuh (33rd, 20:34.5); Jaden Rice (35th, 20:43.3); Biel Pallares Mayoral (47th, 21:34.6); Jakob Mills (49th, 21:38.8); Luke Ehrenberg (55th, 21:58.1); Quinten Kempf (67th, 24:02.2); Braden McIvor (82nd, 32:09.2); and Victor Kiedrowski (83rd, 41:37.5).

Manawa’s places and times included Justin Buschke (28th, 19:58.4); Zach Schertz (29th, 20:00.4); Ricky Pingel (42nd, 21:07.7); Noah Bortle (57th, 22:20.4); Ted Emmert (61st, 22:45.2); Keither Jepson (76th, 2535.4); and Ethan Tellock (79th, 28:39.1).

FVA meet

Three top-15 finishes helped the Hortonville boys place behind Neenah and Kimberly.

Neenah won the boys’ title with 45 points, followed by Kimberly (58), Hortonville (68), Notre Dame (84) and Kaukauna (89).

Charlie Wirth led the Polar Bears by placing fourth in 16.35.1. Other places and times included Aidan Paschke (10th, 17:23.4); Noah Reynolds (15th, 17:36.7); Adam Escudero (17th, 17:44); Darin Horneck (22nd, 17:51.6); Caleb Hoyer (27th, 18:04.2); Tommy Rose (28th, 18:07.8); and Blake Radish (33rd, 18:32.5).

Kaukauna won the girls’ championship with 26 points, followed by Kimberly (46), Notre Dame (69), Neenah (99) and Hortonville (146).

Hortonville’s runners included Paige Morrell (22nd, 21:16); Ellie Borgen (32nd, 22:18.2); Kaitlyn Gloudemans (34th, 22:34.6); Myla Riehl (36th, 23:05.1); Celia Olson (37th, 23:46); and Abbi Pauley (38th, 24:23.6).
