Soccer teams get home games

Tournament to start Oct. 20

Waupaca and Hortonville’s boys’ soccer teams will open the WIAA state tournament with a home game.

Waupaca received a No. 3 seed in Division 2 and will host No. 6 Winneconne at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Comet Field. The winner of that game will play No. 2 Freedom or No. 7 Shawano for a regional championship Saturday, Oct. 24, at a time and location to be determined.

New London received a No. 8 seed and will face top-seeded Seymour at 4 p.m. Oct. 20 in Seymour.

Meanwhile, Hortonville has a bye in the first round and will play its first game at 1 p.m. Oct. 24. The second-seeded Polar Bears will host No. 3 West Bend West or No. 6 Kaukauna in a regional final.

Regional champions will advance to sectional play, which starts Thursday, Oct. 29, with semifinal games and wraps up Saturday, Oct. 31 with finals.

Sectional champions will advance to state competition, slated for Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 5-7, at a location to be determined.
