A home court advantage helped the Waupaca volleyball team in its WIAA state tournament opener.
The Comets received a No. 4 seed in Division 1 and opened tournament play Oct. 20 by taking three of four games from fifth-seeded Shawano at Waupaca High School.
Waupaca won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-12, but Shawano cut the lead in half with a 25-21 win in the third game.
However, the Comets wrapped up the match with a 25-5 win in the fourth game.
Waupaca will now face No. 1 seed Antigo at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in Antigo. The winner of that match will play for a regional championship on Saturday, Oct. 24, against Seymour or Hortonville.
