Two face meth charges

Suspected dealers arrested in Waupaca County

A Waupaca woman and an Oshkosh man face multiple felony drug charges from incidents occurring from July to December.

Nicholas Smith, 47, is charged with felony possession of narcotics, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and felony bail jumping following a Dec. 7 traffic stop.

He is also charged with delivery of methamphetamine as party to a crime and felony bail jumping for allegedly selling meth to a confidential informant on July 30.

Miranda M. Ovenshire, 35, is charged with felony possession of narcotics, possession of counterfeit narcotics with intent to deliver, delivery of methamphetamine near Waupaca’s youth center, possession of an illegally obtained prescription and felony bail jumping for alleged drug sales on July 30 and Aug. 5, and subsequent to a Sept. 9 search of her apartment.

On July 30, a confidential informant working with Waupaca County Deputy Nate Nelson reported buying 3.9 grams from Ovenshire at her apartment in the Waupaca Hotel on East Union Street.

The CI told investigators Smith weighed and packaged the meth when he purchased it from Ovenshire.

On Aug. 5, a CI reported purchasing 24.38 grams of alleged meth from Ovenshire for $200.

However, according to the criminal complaint, the substance tested negative for methamphetamine.

At 9:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, Waupaca County Deputy Jason Claussen was dispatched to the Fremont Travel Plaza on State Highway 110.

A 911 caller reported a man had been slumped over in his vehicle for 45 minutes.

By the time Claussen and paramedics arrived, the man drove away.

According to the criminal complaint, Weyauwega Police Officer B. Tesch located the vehicle at the County Trunk X exit off U.S. Highway 10 about 15 minutes later.

Claussen and other deputies arrived at the scene to assist.

After Tesch placed Smith in the back of his squad car, Smith began to go into seizures.

Claussen then unbuckled Smith and laid him across the back seat while Tesch called for paramedics.

Eventually, Smith stopped seizing and sat back up.

The paramedics placed Smith into their ambulance and transported him to a hospital.

Deputy Graham Barden arrived with his K9 Nova, who alerted to the presence of drugs in Smith’s vehicle.

Officers reported finding methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana, as well as muscle relaxants and anti-convulsive pills in medicine bottles with no prescription labels in the vehicle.

Smith is currently in custody on a $2,500 cash bond.

Ovenshire has been released on a $3,500 signature bond.
