Huebner, Dale Walter

Dale Walter Huebner, 85, died peacefully on December 29, 2020 in Maple Grove, MN, after a long illness.

Dale was born on November 3, 1935, in Leopolis, Wisconsin to Hortense (born Finch) and Walter Huebner. He graduated from Clintonville High School in 1953 where he excelled in all sports, particularly football and baseball. Dale entered the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country for two years during the Korean War. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he was a 4-year football letter winner, playing both sides of the line as center, linebacker, as well as kicking. He held the career PAT (Point After Touchdown) record for many years. The Whitewater team was the Wisconsin State College Football Champions in 1959. Dale also earned three letters in baseball and led the Warhawks to two conference baseball championships. Dale graduated from Whitewater in 1960 and earned a master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1964. In 1978, Dale was inducted into the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Athletic Hall of Fame. Dale married Dianne Hanson, a business teacher, in 1959, welcoming daughter Linda in 1960 and son Phil in 1963. Dale began his teaching career at Cambridge (WI) High School where he taught history and physical education. He was the head football, track, and assistant basketball coach. Dale moved his family to Stevens Point, WI, to teach at Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) from 1967 until his retirement in 1993. He was chairman of the physical education department, taught drivers education and was the defensive coordinator of the football team. Dale was elected to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2009. In 1996, Dale married Helen Erdman, who died in 2018. Dianne Huebner passed in 2007. Dale was known for his big smile, kindness, generosity, and love of sports—always willing to offer a helping hand. His travelling companions through most of his life were Dianne and then Helen. In retirement, Dale wintered in Arizona while living in Clintonville, WI, where he was active in the community, particularly the VFW and golfing.

He is survived by daughter Linda (John) Sauer–grandchildren, Kim (Jeff) Herzog, Ben, and Abby; son Phil (Deb) Huebner–grandchildren, Rebecca and Bret; siblings: Russ (Shirley), Doug (Donna), Jerry, and Eileen as well as many nieces and nephews. Dale will also be missed by all the lives he touched through his 30+ years of teaching, coaching, and mentoring.

Linda and Phil would like to thank all the awesome caregivers of Brighton Hospice and Arbor Lakes Senior Living in Maple Grove, Minnesota, who looked after their father with love, kindness, and professionalism.

The family plans to have a private burial service in the Spring of 2021.
