Polar Bears fall to Germantown

Hortonville girls pick up pair of conference wins

After coming up short against the state’s top-ranked team in Division 1, the Hortonville girls’ basketball team returned to Fox Valley Association play Jan. 4 and picked up a 73-31 win over Appleton West.

The Polar Bears handed the Terrors a 73-31 loss in their first game since a 74-56 loss to Germantown Dec. 31. Hortonville also outscored Appleton North 78-39 Dec. 29.

Hortonville 73, Appleton West 31

Hortonville held the Terrors to 12 points in the second half after outscoring them 32-19 in the first half.

Lyric Johnson led the Polar Bears with 20 points, while Kamy Peppler and Maggie Werner added 15 and 12, respectively.

Germantown 74, Hortonville 56

Germantown led by four points at halftime, but outscored the Polar Bears 40-26 in the second half.

Hortonville trailed 34-30 at halftime, but the Warhawks opened the second half with a 9-0 run and the Polar Bears never got any closer than 11 points the rest of the game.

Johnson and Germantown’s Kamorea Arnold led all scorers with 20 points each. Allison Hafeman added 10 points for Hortonville.

Hortonville 78, Appleton North 39

Hortonville took a 50-20 lead into the locker room at halftime before outscoring the Lightning 28-19 in the second half.

Peppler led the Polar Bears with 22 points. Kallie Peppler and Trinity Mocadlo also finished in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Polar Bears will host Kimberly at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8.
