Four choices for new mascot

Wega-Fremont survey ends Feb. 1

The Weyauwega-Fremont School District is seeking another round of input from community members for the district’s new mascot.

They may vote for one of four names.

The names are Warhawks, River Hawks, Red Hawks and Hawks.

Hawks is the middle school’s current mascot.

“The subcommittee of administration, board members, staff, coaches, students and parents collaborated to define what we wanted in a mascot and how we wanted to have the mascot name to represent the community. Each member had an opportunity to help narrow down the nearly 100 suggestions to the final four through discussion and anonymous voting,” said District Administrator Phillip Tubbs.

People may visit here  to vote for one of the four names.

“Once the voting period is over, the final numbers will go to the board for a final approval,” Tubbs said. “Whatever the name ends up being, the new mascot name will represent the entire district.”

He said the plan is to keep voting up on the district website through Monday, Feb. 1.

The school board will then discuss the topic on Feb. 8, during its Committee of the whole meeting, Tubbs said.

A recommendation could go before the board for approval on Feb. 22.
