Iola-Scandy beats Chargers

There’s a log jam at the top of the Central Wisconsin Conference-East boys’ basketball standings.

Iola-Scandinavia’s recent wins over Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Menominee Indian gave the Thunderbirds a 5-1 mark in CWC-East games. Bonduel and Shiocton will also take a 5-1 record into their Jan. 29 games against Amherst and Weyauwega-Fremont, respectively.

Iola-Scandinavia handed Wittenberg-Birnamwood a 48-36 loss Jan. 28 on Parents’ Night and the T-Birds returned home Jan. 26 after an 83-63 win over Menominee Indian.

The T-Birds outscored the Chargers 29-18 in the second half after taking a 19-18 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Iola-Scandinavia led by as many as nine points in the second half. The Chargers eventually cut the lead to 36-32, but the T-Birds closed the game with a 10-2 run. Parker Prahl scored the T-Birds’ final eight points, with six of them coming from the free-throw line.

Prahl and Brye Hardel led the T-Birds with 13 points, while Ben Flak led the Chargers with 13.

I-S 83, Menominee Indian 63

Iola-Scandinavia outscored the Eagles 42-28 in the first half and 41-35 in the second.

Hardel led all scorers with 20 points, while Prahl, Brock Wester and Marcus Jaworski also finished in double figures with 18, 16 and 11, respectively. Ashton Corn led Menominee Indian with 16 points.
