SWAT team deployed

Arrest follows two-hour standoff in Clintonville

Clintonville called in Waupaca County’s SWAT team after a man threatened to kill officers.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Monday, March 15, the Clintonville Police Department received a call from the 100 block of Lincoln Avenue.

The caller was frantic and told dispatch a man inside the home was throwing and breaking things.

The caller said there were children were present.

Dispatch was attempting to gather more information and could hear yelling in the background.

The caller then hung up the phone and attempts to call back were unsuccessful.

When officers arrived at the scene, they heard yelling inside the home.

Two children were immediately removed from the house.

Police found blood leading up the stairs, where they encountered a 30-year-old man who was bleeding and had armed himself with broken glass.

He headed upstairs, where a woman was present, and told the officers he had a gun and would shoot them.

The man refused to comply with orders and repeatedly said he would kill the officers.

Unable to confirm if he had other weapons, Clintonville police requested assistance from the Waupaca County SWAT team.

After the SWAT team entered they home, the man and woman came downstairs and surrendered.

The man was taken into custody at 6 p.m.

Clintonville Area EMS examined the man. He was then transported to Waupaca County jail.

He is currently in custody on a parole warrant.

Police have not released the man’s name yet.

The Clintonville Police Department was assisted by the Marion Police Department, Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, Waupaca County Swat, Clintonville Fire Department, Clintonville Area EMS and Waupaca County Health and Human Services.
