Go for a run in Manawa

5K Bunny Hop and Coffee Run slated for April 10

By Holly Neumann

The 5K Bunny Hop is a traffic controlled, nontimed run/walk event that starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at Solarus, 131 Second St., in Manawa.

The Manawa Revitalization Committee will host the 5K Bunny Hop and inaugural Coffee Run.

Both runs are scheduled for Saturday, April 10, in Manawa and will include current health protocols.

The 5K Bunny Hop is a traffic controlled, nontimed run/walk event that starts at 8 a.m. at Solarus, 131 Second Street.

“The 5K takes you on a route that starts downtown at Solarus, takes you on a marked trail with crossing guards and a rest stop, through Manawa’s residential section and back to Solarus,” said Amy Starr, who is helping organize the event. “Later, you can meet your buddies at the finish line for snacks and refreshments.”

New this year is the Coffee Run, which Starr said has the flattest and fastest course in the area.

These runners will also start at Solarus and run across the street to The Busy Bean.

“We added The Coffee Run this year to appeal to more people,” Starr said. “This event offers more socializing and a flexible time commitment. Successful runners will be greeted with cheers, a complimentary drink from The Busy Bean and a commemorative mug.”

Participants can start anytime between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m.

Visit the Manawa Revitalization Committee’s Facebook page or pick up a registration form available at most of Manawa’s local businesses to register for either run.

The registration deadline to guarantee a T-shirt or coffee mug is Monday, March 29.

“We take any registrations up to the time of the event, but participants are not guaranteed a coffee mug or T-shirt,” Starr said.

The cost of the 5K run is $25, with a discount for a group of four or more dressed in festive attire. The cost includes a long-sleeve runner shirt, business coupons, water and refreshments.

The cost of the Coffee Run is $10, with a discount for a group of four or more dressed in festive attire.
This event includes a commemorative coffee travel mug, coffee drink from The Busy Bean and coupons to local businesses.

The Busy Bean, Smart Move Realty and First State Bank are the main sponsors of this year’s event, along with contributions from other local businesses.

The Manawa Revitalization Committee uses funds raised to support projects that include beautifying the downtown with planted benches, the Friday night car shows in July and the Art Tour.
