UPDATE: Fire at New London campground

Four trailers engulfed in flames, propane tanks explode

Multiple fire departments were called out to a fire at Huckleberry Acres campground near New London.

New London firefighters were dispatched to the fire shortly before 1 p.m. Friday, April 16.

They found four camper trailers and two small sheds engulfed in flames.

A pickup truck was also destroyed and some other trailers had smoke damage.

Due to the size of the blaze, departments were called from Hortonville, Dale, Fremont, Manawa, Bear Creek and Weyauwega to assist.

The DNR also responded because the incident was initially reported as a wildfire.

Capt. Don Conat said the fire is still under investigation and no cause has been determined.

He noted that the fire started in one of the sheds, spread to the trailers and caused the propane tanks to explode.

“We don’t have any reason to believe at this time it was arson,” Conat said.

Waupaca County deputies took photos of the damage and provided traffic control.
