Summer library program starts June 14

Several activities planned in Iola

Iola Village Library staff are gearing up for their annual summer library program.

This year’s program will begin Monday, June 14, and continue through Friday, Aug. 6.

Information will be handed out in Imagination Bags available for pickup at the library. Each bag contains a description for the program. Updates will be posted on the library’s Facebook page.

The kickoff program for all ages, Make a Tail, will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 14. Participants will make an animal tail and mask.

Other summer programs

• Read, Read Read (June 14 to Aug. 6). There are three ways to register for the summer reading program: pick up a Summer Reading Log at the library; install the Beanstack Tracker from the App store, search Iola Village Library and scroll down to create an account; or go to iolalibrary.beanstack.org and scroll down to create an account. Participants follow along each week to record their reading minutes and activities. Families are encouraged to do three or more activities each week. Those that read and do activities all eight weeks will receive a small prize.

• Where in Iola is the Tail? (June 14 to Aug. 6). A new picture will be posted each week on the main entrance doors, inside the library and on its Facebook page. Submit guesses in the library’s book drop, inside at the desk or by email. One prize winner will be chosen each week from all correct guesses.

• Imagination Bags (June 14 to Aug. 6). Pick up a bag at the library each week. A different animal theme will be featured each week, as well as a project with instructions and materials.

• Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) Bags (June 14 to Aug. 6). Pick up a STEAM Bag at the library that includes a fun and interesting new activity to do at home. Bags are for ages 6 and up and are limited to one per family.

• Tie a Blanket for the Humane Society (June 14 to Aug. 6). Tie a blanket for dogs and cats and the Waupaca County and Portage County humane societies. Blankets can be tied at the library or taken home and returned. Send photos to [email protected] to be shared on Facebook.

• Preschool Story Time (June 16, June 23, June 30, July 7, July 14, July 21, July 28, Aug. 4). Preschool Story Time will held at 10 a.m. Wednesdays and will be held outside, weather permitting. The program is for children ages 5 and under accompanied by a parent or guardian. Each week will include stories, rhymes or songs and an activity. A craft bag will be handed out for children to extend the fun. Older siblings are always welcome.

• Movie Afternoon (June 16, June 23, June 30, July 14, July 21, July 28, Aug. 4). Movies will be shown at 1 p.m. Wednesdays in the air-conditioned library. Movies will be rated G or PG. Children 5 and under must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
• Rock Painting at the Library (2 p.m. Thursday, June 17). Mrs. Danielson from Iola-Scandinavia Elementary School will help paint kindness rocks that can be hidden around Iola for others to find.

• Tail Waggin’ Tales (11 a.m. June 11, June 18, July 16, July 23, July 30, Aug. 6). Participants can bring their favorite book, choose one from the library’s shelves or have one selected for them. Po and Pepsi love to listen and will be waiting. All dogs are certified through Therapy Dogs International. Call the library at 715-445-4330 to sign up.

• Animal Yoga with Tammie Jo Berg (10 a.m. Thursday, July 15). Learn animal yoga poses such as downward dog, cat/cow, cobra, hedgehog, relaxed butterfly, flamingo, giraffe, crocodile and more. The program is for all ages, including adults, and will be held outdoors, weather permitting. Participants should bring a yoga pad, towel or blanket to stand on.

• Fun at the Park (10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20). Head to Taylor Field for Nature Bingo and paper worm races. All ages are welcome.

• Children’s Garden (1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5). All ages are invited to a story and activity at the Iola Children’s Garden. Participants do not have to be part of the Children’s Garden to attend. Call the library at 715-445-4330 to attend.

• Summer Finale (10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6). Participants can bring their favorite stuffed animal for the pet show. Everyone will introduce their stuffies, play games and enjoy a summer treat.
