Shooting on Little Wolf River

Authorities searching for suspect

By Robert Cloud

A 35-year-old Green Bay man was shot in the head while tubing on the Little Wolf River shortly before 4:20 p.m. Sunday, July 25.

The incident occurred south of Ostrander Road in the town of Mukwa.

ThedaStar airlifted the victim to a hospital. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to Waupaca County Sheriff Tim Wilz.

Wilz said the suspect is also from the Green Bay area.

“We have not located him yet,” Wilz said, noting that authorities in Green Bay are cooperating with Waupaca County in searching for the suspect.

Wilz said the suspect and the victim were tubing when they began to argue about littering.

“The one who did the ittering pulled out a pistol and shot the other man,” Wilz said.

Authorities are not releasing the names of the suspect or victim.

“We’re not sure if they knew each other,” Wilz said.

He said witness reports were contradictory about the men’s relationship.

“We’re dealing with a lot of highly intoxicated people,” Wilz said. “It’s difficult to get good information.”
