Thunderstorms that rolled through the area affected several high school football games Aug. 27.

While a handful of games were played that night, others were rescheduled or postponed and resumed.

Little Chute at Waupaca

Lightning caused the game at Comet Field to be suspended midway through the first quarter with Little Chute leading 7-0.

The game was originally scheduled to resume Aug. 30, but ended up getting canceled.

Waupaca will open Bay Conference play at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at home against Fox Valley Lutheran.

Manawa will open Central Wisconsin Conference-Large play at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Stratford. The Tigers will bring a 2-0 record into the game after a 9-8 win over Edgar.

Hortonville 32, West De Pere 29 (2 OT)

Hortonville’s second football game of the season came down to Drew Klein’s leg.

The senior kicker delivered, as his 42-yard field goal in the second overtime gave the Polar Bears a 32-29 nonconference win over West De Pere.

The teams had played to a 7-7 tie Aug. 27 before the game was suspended with just under three minutes remaining in the first half.

The game resumed the following day at Wolf River Community Bank Stadium.

West De Pere scored the only touchdown in the first quarter on Sam Aleknavicius’ 25-yard touchdown pass to Najeh Mitchell.

Hortonville tied the game in the second quarter on Hunter Strange’s 15-yard run and the Polar Bears took their first lead on Sam Dodd’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Brady Mashlan just before halftime.

Both teams found the end zone twice in the first half.

Galoff scored from 6 yards out in the first quarter, while Behnke added quarterback keepers of 10 and 25 yards in the second quarter as the Lions built a 20-0 halftime lead.
