Celebrating Public Power Week

Clintonville Utilities to host open house

By Bert Lehman

In celebration of Public Power Week, Clintonville Utilities will host at open house from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6.

the event will be held in the parking lot of the Clintonville Community Center.

In addition to Clintonville Utilities, which include water, wastewater and electric, other city departments will participate in the open house.

Clintonville’s Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Fire Department, and Police Department will each showcase the equipment they use and share what day-to-day activities they do.

Truck demos, educational materials, games, a coloring contest and other activities are planned.

“This is very important to me also. I brought it up to the guys and they ran with it,” said Dave Tichinel, Clintonville’s utility manager said at the council’s Sept. 14 meeting. “You’re going to see things with the electric, some of the games and stuff that they’re going to do is unexplainable. I am so proud of these guys.”

Tichinel said the open house is a way to give back to the community.

The cost to put on the event is being paid by the employees in the participating departments, Tichinel said. Old materials within the departments are also being used for the event in an effort to reduce costs.

“There’s nothing coming out of our city budget to do this. That’s how passionate they (employees) about doing it,” Tichinel said. “So, everything you’re going to see there besides city equipment was made up by staff.”
