Manawa drops Homecoming game

By Greg Seubert

Spencer/Columbus Catholic brought a potent rushing game to its Central Wisconsin Conference-Large football matchup with Manawa.

The Rockets used three 100-yard rushers to post a 36-8 win Oct. 1 on Homecoming night for the Wolves.

Xane Adler and Brock Bennington scored on runs of 51 and 47 yards, respectively, in the first quarter and Bennington added a 26-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter as the Rockets led 21-0 at the break.

The Wolves answered in the third quarter with a 37-yard run from Tanner Nienhaus, but that turned out to be the only time Manawa found the end zone.

Will Gorst added to the Rockets’ lead in the fourth quarter with touchdown runs of 28 and 34 yards.

Gorst finished with 120 of the Rockets’ 335 rushing yards, while Bennington and Adler added 103 each.

Nienhaus finished with 69 of Manawa’s 82 rushing yards. He also completed 16 passes, but for only 55 yards.

Manawa fell to 1-4 in CWC-Large play and will travel to Amherst Friday, Oct. 8, to face the undefeated Falcons at 7 p.m.
