Polar Bears win volleyball regional

Hortonville’s volleyball team picked up three wins over Appleton East during the regular season.
The teams met again Oct. 23 in a Division 1 regional final and the Polar Bears stayed alive in the WIAA state tournament by taking three of four games from the Patriots.
Fourth-seeded Hortonville will now face another Fox Valley Association opponent – No. 1 seed Appleton North – at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in a sectional semifinal at Pulaski High School. No. 2 Kimberly will take on third-seeded Kaukauna in the other semifinal in Pulaski and the winners will then meet at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, in a sectional final at Kaukauna High School.
Hortonville also opened tournament play Oct. 21 with a win over Ashwaubenon.
Hortonville 3, Appleton East 1
Appleton East served for the win in the first set, but the Polar Bears came back to open the match with a 26-24 win.
Hortonville outscored the visitors 25-20 in the second game, but the Patriots stayed alive with a 25-22 win in the third set.
The Polar Bears then wrapped up the match with a 25-18 win.
Hortonville 3, Ashwaubenon 0
Hortonville swept the 13th-seeded Jaguars 25-8, 25-11, 25-10.
The winner of the Oct. 30 sectional final in Kaukauna will advance to state, which will be held Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 4-6, at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
