Wolf Walk a big hit

Manawa students show school spirit

By Holly Neumann

The Wolf Walk, an annual tradition that Manawa students look forward to each year, was held Oct. 22.

As elementary students walked down to the track, high school students formed a tunnel for them to walk through. There were a lot of high-fives given. Even Wolfie, the school mascot, could be found hanging out with the crowd.

After listening to a musical performance by the high school band and the National Anthem by the choir, students and staff headed to the track to the tune of the school song. And right on cue, everyone chanted out the letters W-O-L-V-E-S.

“This is so much fun,” 4K student Andy Konitzer said. “I like running on the track.”

“It is a great sight, seeing the fun that comes from an event that is led by the students,” high school student Maleah Pirk said.

Students received a bead to put on a necklace after completing each mile of the walk.

“At the end, you find out how many miles each grade walked and which grade got the most miles,” high school student Rylee Kettleson said. “Educational resources are coordinated with teachers based on the miles walked. The day is filled with lots of smiles and fun from both the elementary and high school student leaders.”

The goal is to get elementary students active and start building relationships with high schoolers.

“I remember how much I looked up to the high schoolers when I did this walk,” Kennedy Rosin said. “I am glad that now it is my turn to be a positive role model for all the kids out here today.”

“This is an awesome community event,” elementary principal Danni Brauer said. “Everyone getting together and having fun is so important. It is great to see all their smiles.”

In the past, the event was used as a fundraiser for field trips, technology and playground equipment.

This year, the sole purpose was simply to have fun, see how far students can walk and demonstrate school spirit.
