Luxemburg-Casco and Waupaca played some memorable football games while competing in the North Eastern Conference.

Waupaca would just as soon forget the latest matchup, as the Spartans scored on their first six drives and cruised to a 49-7 win over the Comets Oct. 29 in a WIAA Division 3 Level 2 playoff game in Luxemburg.

The Spartans improved to 11-0 with the win and will now host Menasha at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, while Waupaca ended its season with a 5-5 record.

Luxemburg-Casco opened the scoring with Owen Deprez’ 32-yard touchdown pass to Max Ronsman. The Spartans’ next two drives ended with Ryan Routhieaux’s 5-yard run and Issac VandenBush’s 13-yard run and the home team took a 21-0 lead into the second quarter.

It didn’t get any better for the Comets in the next period, as VandenBush added 11- and 44-yard touchdown runs and an interception set up a 37-yard run from Deprez with just under two minutes remaining in the first half.

Substitutions and a running clock in the second half kept the Spartans from adding to their lead.

Luke Schwenn scored from a yard out in the third quarter to cap a 47-yard drive for Waupaca, but the Spartans answered their next drive with Ronsman’s 1-yard run to wrap up the scoring.

The Spartans finished with 413 rushing yards, including 162 from VandenBush and 116 from Deprez.
