Public input sought on U.S. 45 project

Construction planned from Shawano County to Clintonville

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public input on proposed improvements to U.S. 45 between Gollnow Road in Shawano County to Waupaca County C in Clintonville.

Construction is currently scheduled for 2023 but could occur as early as 2022.

Proposed improvements

• Removing and replacing the existing asphaltic pavement.

• Removing the gutter adjacent to the two-way left-turn lane.

• Removing and replacing damaged curb and gutter sections at intersections and median areas.

• Removing and replacing guardrail.

• Repairing scour areas adjacent to three culverts.

• Adding raised medians at intersection left-turn lanes.

• Removing and replacing approach slabs at the bridge over the south branch of the Pigeon River.

• Repairing or replacing storm sewer inlets where required.

Traffic Impacts

During construction, U.S. 45 will be open to traffic. Crews will either manage traffic using single-lane closures, or close one side for construction while the other side has bidirectional traffic. Staged construction or short-term closures at intersections may be necessary.

Real Estate

Minor areas of new right of way or temporary easements may be required to accommodate grading in areas of guardrail upgrades and culvert repairs. Landowner rights information and a map of preliminary real estate impacts are available on the project website.

How to provide input

The public is invited to review maps, a presentation, and other information on the project website and provide input through Friday, Nov. 26, 2021.

Residents, property owners, and businesses in the area have been mailed a handout with a comment form that can be sent back to WisDOT.

Submit comments using the online comment form on the project website.
