Once the double forfeits were out of the way, it was time to get down to business.

That’s what the Weyauwega-Fremont wrestling team did Dec. 16 in its home opener, a 54-12 Central Wisconsin Conference dual meet win over Manawa.

Neither team had a wrestler at 106, 113 and 120 pounds. After Manawa forfeited to Connor Johnson at 126, Aiden Marquette pinned Manawa’s Seth Wollenberg in 44 seconds in the 132-pound match and Kaleb Mannel pinned Drake Frasier at 138 in 1:17 to give the Warhawks an 18-0 lead.

The Wolves answered with Gavin Linjer’s pin of Alex Loehrke in 1:49, but Manawa forfeited to Carter McDaniel at 152 and the Warhawks added to their lead with first-period pins at 160 and 170. Caden Meisenhelder pinned Dylan Spaulding in 45 seconds and Tellyer Alex took care of Chase Dobberstein in 46 seconds that gave the home team a 36-6 lead.

Bryce Bartel scored Manawa’s final six points of the meet by pinning Cashten Hoffman in 3:20 at 182.

Manawa then forfeited the 195 and 220 matches to Luke Sanger and Vanden Hoffman, respectively, and the Warhawks wrapped up the meet with Cody Steinbach’s pin of Hunter Suehs in 13 seconds at 285.

Both teams wrestled in invitationals on Dec. 18. Manawa traveled to Auburndale, while the Warhawks headed to Tomahawk.

Weyauwega-Fremont also hosted Stratford, Mishicot, Random Lake and Cedar Grove-Belgium Dec. 21.
