Progress on daycare

Weyauwega-Fremont now expects to open facility in April

Little Hawks Child Care Center is on track to open this spring but it may be a month later due to supply chain disruptions.

The goal was to have a March 1 opening but sometime in April might be more realistic according to Weyauwega-Fremont School District Administrator Phillip Tubbs.

“The hang-up right now is materials. All the construction part is done that we can do. Now we are waiting for the ceiling tiles, the floor tiles and doors to come in,” said Tubbs.

Construction has been a matter of weighing options.

For example, the doors that match best with the color scheme have a six-month delay. The second choice is doors that could arrive in eight weeks but they are a slightly off color and might not match as well.

The concern is to get the work done right and satisfactory without having to go back and redo anything once the daycare is up and running.

“What we’re trying to work through is figuring out some of the options so we do it right but also do it in a timely manner,” said Tubbs.

The daycare also obtained permission from building code authorities to expand the construction into hallway so the bathrooms will be within the daycare.

Information about the daycare is online and can be found on the school district website.

The new director, Hope Steiger, is out on maternity leave and will return to work later this month.
