Waupaca Arts Hub marks first year

Open house , community events planned in April

The Waupaca Community Arts Hub is celebrating its first anniversary.

“The Arts Hub, a program of the Waupaca Community Arts Board, is grateful for our Hub families; the First United Methodist Church, where the Hub is located, staff and volunteers, collaborative partners and community members who have helped to make the Arts Hub dream a reality,” said Executive Director Laura Colbert.

The Arts Hub began with in April 2021 one piano teacher.

In less than a year it has grown to five musicians leading private and group lessons for children and adults.

Piano, guitar, bass, percussion, ukulele, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, woodwinds and brass lessons are now offered.

Art programming provided by qualified professional artists started in the summer of 2021 with four classes.

The Arts Hub has grown to provide after-school art programming three days a week, with bus service for Waupaca School District students.

The Hub also offers adult programming, with courses and one-time workshops.

“Making art accessible to everyone is core to the Arts Hub’s mission, so we’re thrilled that Scholarship funds have made it possible to provide needs-based tuition support for art and music instruction,” said Colbert.

To celebrate all of these accomplishments, several events are planned for the public throughout the month of April.

The Hub is hosting a Big Sing, which is a community sing along with a live band, at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at Little Fat Gretchen’s Café in downtown Waupaca. Songbooks will be provided. This event is free.

An open house is scheduled from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at the Hub, 720 Demarest Ave., Waupaca.

Visitors may tour the Hub, have some treats and participate in a couple of make-and-take and group art projects. The event is open to the public.

Family Game Night

The Hub will host a family-friendly Game Night fundraiser from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Waupaca Rec Center, 407 School St.

Featured games include bingo and a sheepshead tournament, as well as cornhole, hole punch and 50/50 raffle.

Entry fees are: $5 for ages 13 and up, $2 for ages 12 and under, $15 to enter the sheepshead tournament.

Childcare will be provided. Snacks will be available.

This event is made possible with support from the Waupaca Area Public Library, Waupaca Parks and Rec, Four Myths Games and Hobby, and Chain O’ Lakes Bar and Grill.
