Bartel, Verona Marie “Kitty”

Verona Marie “Kitty” Bartel, age 98, formerly of rural Fremont passed away Sunday, March 27 at The Legacy in Waupaca.

She was born in the town of Bloomfield, Waushara County to the late Albert and Marie (Winter) Krenke on May 23, 1923. She attended the Wendt and Christ Ev. Lutheran Schools and was confirmed with the class of 1936. She was a member of the West Bloomfield 4H Club and later became their leader. She was employed for a time at Appleton’s State Restaurant and Zwicker Knitting Mills. On October 10, 1947, Verona married Vernon Bartel at Christ Lutheran Church in West Bloomfield in a double ceremony with Vernon’s brother Floyd and Verona’s sister Geraldine. Rev. CH Clausing officiated. She then became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in East Bloomfield. For the first few years, they lived on the family farm in Orihula and then they purchased a farm on Lake Poygan where they raised cattle, goats, hogs, ducks and poultry. Verona especially liked to fish in her spare time. They never had children of their own, but enjoyed their nephews and nieces.

Verona is survived by her sister, Geraldine Bartel; a sister-in-law, Eveline Lippert; a few cousins; nieces and nephews: Gale and Sandra Zietlow, James and Jerome Wohlt, Harley (Mary) Bartel, Claude (Vickie) Bartel, Terry (Carol) Lippert, Carol Utecht, David (Mary) Sattler, Steve (Naomi) Artis, Walter and Ronald Lippert; several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, her husband, Vernon; brothers and sisters-law: Oscar and Rosa Haese, Leslie and Florence Wohlt, Floyd Bartel and Walter Lippert and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St, John Lutheran Church, 8580 37th Ave., Fremont. Pastor Paul Fritz officiated. Visitation was held at the church on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment was in Wolf River Cemetery. The Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont assisted the family with arrangements.
