Kaukauna wins in eight innings

Hortonville’s softball team faced four Fox Valley Association opponents in four days and ended up with a 3-1 record.

The Polar Bears handed Neenah a 3-0 loss April 29, picked up a 5-1 win over Oshkosh North April 28, fell to Kaukauna 3-1 April 27 and topped Appleton East 9-4 April 26.

Hortonville 3, Neenah 0

Hortonville scored once in the third inning and added two more runs in the fifth while shutting out the Rockets.

Allison Hafeman drove in a pair of runs and Maggie Werner added a solo home run.
Hannah Meshnick held the Rockets to two hits while picking up the complete-game win on the mound.

Hortonville 5, Oshkosh North 1

Paige Lillie held the Spartans to one hit over four innings and struck out seven batters to get the win for Hortonville.

The Polar Bears scored single runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings and added two in the fourth.

Anna Kaskavitch hit a solo home run and Werner scored twice.

Kaukauna 3, Hortonville 1 (8 inn.)

Paige Miller’s two-run single broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth inning to lead the top-ranked Ghosts to the win.

Kaukauna took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but the Polar Bears tied the game in the fifth after Bridget Moen walked and scored on an error.

Meshnick took the loss as Kaukauna outhit the Polar Bears 6-3.

Hortonville 9, Appleton East 4

Meshnick had four hits, including a home run, drove in three runs and got the win on the mound.
Hortonville took a 7-0 lead into the fourth inning.

Hafeman, Werner and Bella Dontje each had two hits for the Polar Bears.

Werner also hit a home run; Tavia Schmidt had a triple; and Meshnick and Kaskavitch added a double.
