Driver faces felony OWI

Weyauwega man has six prior convictions

John C. Steinbach, 51, Weyauwega, is charged with a seventh drunken driving offense.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, March 19, DNR Warden Jonathan Kaiser stopped a minivan on Casey Road. He reported seeing the van deviate from its lane.

Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputy Brittany Goodreau arrived at the scene. She noted that Steinbach smelled of alcohol.

According to the complaint, Steinbach told Goodreau that it was his birthday and he “had drinks.” He was reported to be “swaying and wobbly.”

While conducting field sobriety tests, Goodreau “had to stop the tests to ensure he wouldn’t fall.” the complaint says.

Due to six prior drunken driving convictions, Steinbach is restricted to a 0.02 BAC.

He was released from custody on a $1,500 cash bond.
