Meet set for June 3-4 in La Crosse

Track athletes from six area high schools will wrap up their season at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships.

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse will host this year’s meet, set for Friday and Saturday, June 3-4, at Roger Harring Stadium.

Division 1 athletes needed to place in the top three at their respective sectional meet, while athletes in division 2 and 3 needed a top-four finish.

Local athletes competed May 26 at sectionals in Rosholt, Little Chute and De Pere.

Division 3 Rosholt Sectional

Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa and Weyauwega-Fremont headed to Rosholt.

Iola-Scandinavia’s Charlie Vater had the only first-place finish among area competitors, as he won the boys’ 3,200-meter run in 9:40.1.

Iola-Scandinavia’s other state qualifiers are Parker Prahl (second, boys’ long jump, and fourth, triple jump): the boys’ 3,200-meter relay team of Brock Wester, Dylan Donovan, Jacob Lashua and Vater (second); and Ian Koss (fourth, boys’ 400-meter dash).

Manawa’s state qualifiers are Lexi Hedtke (third, girls’ high jump): Olivia Santos (second, discus, and fourth, shot put); the boys’ 800-meter relay team of Justin Buschke, Grant Bristol, Conner Scheid and Tanner Nienhaus (second): the boys’ 400-meter relay team of Buschke, Landon Sobieszczyk, Scheid and Nienhaus (third); Bristol (fourth, boys’ high jump); and the girls’ 3,200-meter relay team of Marilyn Klatt, Jolie Jaeger, Amber Fietzer and Makenzie Jo Krueger (fourth).

Weyauwega-Fremont’s state qualifier are Abby Bartel (second, girls’ 3,200-meter run and fourth, 1,600-meter run); Emma Ziepke (girls’ 800-meter run and fourth, 400-meter dash); Quinn Dittmann (second, boys’ 100-meter dash); the girls’ 3,200-meter relay team of Ziepke, Madison Hansen, Morgan Hansen and Bartel (second); the boys’ 400-meter relay team of Brayden Arndt, Dittmann, Hayden Orr and Muluken Rucks (second); and the 800-meter relay team of Arndt, Dittmann, Orr and Rucks (third).

Division 2 Little Chute Sectional

New London’s Kyle Wisniewski won the boys’ long and triple jump events in Little Chute with distances of 22 feet, 4 1/4 inches and 44 feet, 8 3/4 inches, respectively.

New London’s other state qualifiers are Ian Oberstadt (second, boys’ triple jump); the girls’ 1,600-meter relay team of Maddie Kloehn, Maren Stepniak, Rianna Schultz and Macy Reybrock (third); Bre Hacker (third, girls’ triple jump); Reybrock (fourth, girls’ 400-meter dash).

Clintonville’s state qualifiers are Joshua Wilson (third, boys’ 1,600-meter run, and fourth, 3,200-meter run); and Lauren Zwirschitz (third, girls’ 100-meter hurdles).

Division 1 West De Pere Sectional

Hortonville’s Ben Smith returned from West De Pere High School with sectional championships in the boys’ shot put (59 feet, 5 1/2 inches) and discus (187 feet, 9 inches) events.

The Polar Bears’ other state qualifiers are the boys’ 3,200-meter relay team of Aidan Paschke, Mason Lehmkuhl, Aiden Leist and Blake Radish (second); and Eathan Lund (third, boys’ pole vault).
