A convincing win has New London’s softball team heading back to a familiar place.

An 11-1 win over Altoona in a WIAA Division 2 sectional final June 2 means the Bulldogs will return to state for the first time since a run of five straight appearances from 2013-17,

New London, the third-seeded team in Division 2, will face No. 2 Freedom at 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Goodman Diamond in Madison. The two communities are only 20 miles apart and didn’t play each other this season.

Top-seeded Jefferson will play No. 4 Wisconsin Lutheran in the other state semifinal and the winners will advance to the championship game, set for 4 p.m. Saturday, June 11.

The Bulldogs also advanced to the sectional final with a 2-0 win May 31 over Medford.
