Suspect led deputies on high-speed chase

Bayfield County sheriff’s deputies arrested the 23-year-old New London man suspected of stealing a vehicle from an elderly man in Clintonville.

Waupaca County Judge Troy Nielsen issued a warrant on Sept. 21 for the arrest of Seth A. Genereau.

Genereau was charged with robbery with use of force, operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, physical abuse of an elderly person and theft. He faces enhanced sentencing because the victim is elderly.

On Sept. 20, Genereau allegedly pushed an 81-year-old man to the ground while stealing his minivan, then drove away.

On Sept. 22, Iron County deputies reported seeing Genereau driving the stolen vehicle and tried to stop him.

Genereau led officers on a high-speed pursuit through Iron and Ashland counties and into Bayfield County, where the minivan crashed into another vehicle.

Genereau allegedly abandoned the minivan and fled into woods north of Washburn.

Authorities continued searching for Genereau for several days.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, Bayfield County deputies responded to a home where a man who matched Genereau’s description had been spotted. He fled the house on foot.

On Thursday afternoon, the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office reported taking Genereau into custody.
