It wasn’t pretty, but it was enough for the Waupaca football team to pick up its second Bay Conference win in three tries.

Parker Krcmar scored on a pair of quarterback keepers in the first and fourth quarters and that turned out to be all the points the Comets needed Sept. 30 in a 13-0 win over New London at Comet Field.

It was Waupaca’s first shutout since a 49-0 win at Green Bay West in 2018 and the first one at home since a 28-0 win over Green Bay East in 2017.

Krcmar capped the game’s first drive with an 11-yard run and added a 10-yarder with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.

While Waupaca made it into the end zone twice, the defense held the Bulldogs to 110 yards of offense, including 69 through the air and 41 on the ground.

The Comets also picked off four passes, recovered a fumble and held the Bulldogs’ leading rusher, Adan Lopez, to 10 yards on 11 carries.

Waupaca improved to 2-1 in conference play and 2-5 overall, while New London fell to 1-2 and 1-6, respectively.

Both teams have Bay games scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7. Waupaca will head to Seymour, while the Bulldogs will host Shawano for their final home game.
