Playoffs still possible for Comets

Waupaca gets win in Seymour

Waupaca kept its WIAA football playoff hopes alive Oct. 7 with a 36-23 Bay Conference win over Seymour.

The Comets improved to 3-1 in conference play and 3-5 overall, while the Thunder remained winless on the season.

Waupaca took a 15-0 lead midway through the first quarter on a pair of touchdowns. Seymour answered with Wyatt Bunnell’s 4-yard touchdown run, but backup quarterback Ethan Harms hooked up with Owen Smidt for a 51-yard touchdown pass and with Aaron Wolff for a 10-yarder to give the Comets a 29-7 halftime lead.

Seymour’s Mason Bunnell capped the first drive of the second half with an 8-yard run and two-point conversion that cut Waupaca’s lead to 29-15.

Andre Hendrix’s 73-yard touchdown gave the Comets a 36-15 lead before Mason Bunnell wrapped up the scoring with a 4-yard run.

Waupaca will host Winneconne Friday, Oct. 14, at Comet Field for the Comets’ annual Homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
