The Manawa Police Department received a $3,600 donation from TreeHouse Foods that will be used to purchase ballistic shields, helmets and breaching equipment.

“Representatives from TreeHouse and the Manawa Police Department recently met to discuss site security and how we can work together to ensure both our facilities and our community stay safe,” said Kylee Berg, human resource specialist with TreeHouse Foods.

Manawa Police Chief Jason Severson, along with a Waupaca County deputy who teaches active shooter training, toured the facility in Manawa.

“After the tour, we gave them some suggestions and as the meeting concluded, the facility supervisor mentioned if we ever needed anything, they are open to giving back and making a donation,” Severson said.

After thinking about the donation comment, Severson recognized his department’s need for ballistic shields, helmets and breaching equipment to force entry into buildings.

The helmets and shields help protect officers and the tools will help breach doors without trying to kick or otherwise force a door open with limited or no tools.

“TreeHouse offered to buy two sets, one for each squad,” Severson said. “One set was purchased this year and another similar donation will be made early next year for the second set.”

“We wanted to support the police department, as they have supported us,” Berg said. “The community of Manawa and surrounding areas are an important part of our success and their safety and security is always top of mind.”

Severson thanked TreeHouse Foods for the donation.

“We are very grateful to have such a big donation,” he said. “Our budget will be status quo for the next year, so this will help us be able to better manage our budget.”
