Laurie Jean Marks, age 63, of Scandinavia, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at ThedaCare Medical Center in Waupaca.
She was born June 12, 1959, in Waupaca, WI, the daughter of Ron and Kay Smith. She was a 1977 graduate of Waupaca High School. On May 30, 1998, she was united in marriage to John Marks in Iowa.
Laurie had worked for Chef Fresh-Festive Foods in Waupaca in the quality assurance department. She enjoyed spending her time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Laurie liked tending to her flowers, watching the birds, other wild animals, and reading books. She was known to be a “saver of lost souls”.
She is survived by her husband, John; three sons, Corey (Rosalind) Kealiher, Patrick (Kate) Kealiher and Matthew (Tammy) Kealiher; one daughter, Katie (Liam) Steffen; many loved grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; brother, Doug (Kathy) Smith; sister, Julie (Pat) Compton; special niece and nephew, Jaxson and Christine; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray (Louise) Hempel and Fred (Ida) Smith; parents, Ron Smith and Kay Smith Miller; and her stepfather, Larry Miller.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 11, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Barbola-Hempel Funeral Chapel in Poy Sippi. A prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. A later Celebration of Life for Laurie will be held on June 10, 2023.
