Wolf River Art League hosts event

Wolf River Art League’s Mid-Winter Art Show takes place from 10 a.m.- to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11-12 at Crystal Falls Banquet Facility.

A judge’s critique returns this year, and event attendees can hear the judge‘s comments from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The 2023 judge is Kobe Elixson, who draws and makes prints.

Currently, he is working as a visiting artist in residence at the University of  Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he is teaching drawing and printmaking.

Elixson worked as a visiting artist at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and his work has most recently been part of juried exhibitions at The Arts Center of Corpus Christi in and the New Grounds/Remarque Print Workshop in Los Ranchos, New Mexico.

He holds a master’s of fine arts in printmaking from the University of Florida and a bachelor’s degree in studio arts from Flagler College in St Augustine, Florida.

Featured artist

The featured artist this year is a Wolf River Art League member and mural artist Jason Hornung.

Hornung has contributed to the Veteran’s Memorial mural here and is in the process of painting four walls at Memorial Park near the ball diamonds.

Hornung lives in Clintonville with his wife Sara and their cats. His work as a Lions Club member there led him to create bold images at the skate park.

“My passion and muse are to illustrate with a specialty in wildlife, focusing on faces and paying extra close attention to expression and fur detail,” explains Hornung. “This is where the spiritual connection is made between my illustrations and the viewer. No mediums are off limits as I am a mixed media artist, but I have an affinity for paints and colored pencils.”

This year a Kids Creation Zone features face painter Carl Mann of Hortonville. Stroll the outskirts of the show to visit with Patrick Pelkey woodcarver, Brady Looker glassblower and the Fox Valley Spinners.

Mural guidebook

Also find a table dedicated to the WRAL’s Start Art Mural Project. The league launches their new booklet for self-guided tours of New London’s 70 murals.

The league is asking for donations when receiving a book, to cover printing costs, leaving their savings for future murals, upkeep of existing murals and a sculpture park.

More than 40 door prizes and some giveaways are available while listening to piano music and visiting with fellow art lovers. The food at Crystal Falls is available throughout the show, with their standard menu always available and a short menu in the show area.
