Waupaca event finds new location

This year’s Irish Wake will move to a new location, H.H. Hinder Brewing Co., 804 Churchill.

Slated from 3-10 p.m. Saturday, March 18, the free event will feature multiple bands and a food truck with traditional Irish food.
Local tradition also features a reading of the Irish Wake Honor Book.

Families who have lost someone over the past year are encouraged to add their name to the book so they can be remembered and honored during the reading.

The Waupaca Community Arts Board sponsors the event.

“We are so pleased that Hinder was interested in providing the Arts Board with a larger venue,” said WCAB President Marci Reynolds. “We wanted to keep the tradition of an authentic Celtic musical celebration which honors those we’ve lost. Hinder was all in. They have been a great partner in the planning.”

The event starts with The Calathumpians reeling out authentic Irish tunes from 3-6 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m., Flip O’ the Coin takes the stage, featuring traditional Irish dance music.

KRB Klinger’s Real Barbeque truck will offer a variety of hot food, including corned beef and cabbage.

H.H. Hinder is creating a special Irish Wake Stout just for this event, as well as serving their regular tap list.

“The Irish Wake has been a popular event for years in Waupaca and H.H. Hinder is honored to be partnering with the Arts Board for the event this year,” said Mike Stroik, owner of H.H. Hinder.
