Passenger injured in crash

UTV tips over in rural Iola

Rescue workers had to extricate a passenger pinned under a UTV following a crash on Roosevelt Road in the town of Iola.

The Waupaca County Communications Center received a 911 call shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday. April 22.

The caller reported that a UTV had crashed on private property and a passenger was pinned under the vehicle with a fractured leg.

Sheriff’s deputies say the 32-year-old operator was negotiating a curve when the UTV tipped over.

The driver and the 28-year-old passenger were not wearing seat belts or helmets.

The passenger was transported by ambulance for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Iola Fire Department, Iola Ambulance Service, Iola Police Department, Clintonville Ambulance Service and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
